District Has Some of the Highest Growth in the State
Back in September, Coalinga-Huron Unified administrators waited anxiously for the state student achievement scores to come in. They were impatient to find out if the new research-based procedures and programs, coupled with student and staff hard work, had paid dividends. They knew that these were high-stakes tests, especially since the District and most of the schools were in Program Improvement.
A shout of joy was raised when the academic scores came in. Not only had there been an improvement in academic achievement, the District had grown a staggering 32 points, as measured by API (a state measurement of how much students had grown in the District!) According to Superintendent Dr. Cecelia Greenberg-English, “This was one of the largest increases in growth in the State for any unified district.”
All major demographic groups in the District grew. Special Education students led the county in growth, increasing 103 points over the previous year’s API scores. English Learners grew 36 points, Hispanic students were up 35 points, and white students grew 17 points. Low-socioeconomic students grew...
